Ugandan producer and rapper Baru released his 8 track EP Young King, three months ago. The project which was produced fully by him also features fellow Dustiville/Crane Gang artists Abasaa, Pryce and Patrobas, Play01
Kingin is his first video release form the project and features Play01 and Patrobas riding over a high energy Grime like beat that suits Patrobas style perfectly. Play01 seems to struggle to match the cadence needed on such a frantic instrumental.

When it comes to Hip Hop icons, DJ Jimmy Jatt has become more of living institution that anything else. The veteran just dropped a video his track Greatest from the Industry Vol. 1 Album. The track features the piercing saxophone bellows of Femi Kuti as M.anifest opens the song with with 20 fire bars as Navio and Modenine pick up the baton while simultaneously trying to out do each other on the following verses.
Patrobas – This World Featuring Ruyonga

The Ugandan duo of Patrobas and Ruyonga just linked up on This World, a song where they discuss some of the injustices occurring in Africa ands the world that are often ignored. “Now I can write you a combo about my bomb flow and tell you about the bombs going off in The Congo “ Ruyonga raps as he opens his verse.
Patrobas reflects on his verse about modern stay struggles that we all face “inequality and racism still alive, even slavery but some would say I'm telling lies “
Always great to hear rappers rapping lyrics and also remembering to package their message into a good and palatable song. Stay Woke!

British based Ugandan rapper Patrobas is an artist that we just came across and it is a surprise that a man this talented has managed to go unnoticed for so long. The rapper recently dropped a video for Voice Inside, an introspective song that speaks on rebirth and reinvention featuring the vocals of Abaasa over the hook.

Young Cardamom & HAB are a Ugandan rap duo based in Kampala, their music covers topical issues that resonate with Ugandan nationals while retaining influences from the sounds "of Atlanta, Juba and Lahore, among others." (That's what they typed) Sidda Mukyaalo is their debut EP and addresses a wide range of issues, from the deep roots of Uganda’s current political crisis to the place of South Asians in Uganda, with a rap battle along the way. My highlight from the project thus far is Askari with its uptempo beat and tag team raps on socially conscious issues.
