GZE Returns With Gotora
Zimbabwean hip hop veteran GZE (Resilience Chekera) marks the return of his signature Freestyle Fridays series with a new standalone single, "Gotora," out Friday, 28 August 2026 on all digital platforms. The single arrives with an official music video, premiering the same day.
Produced by his long-time collaborator Simba Tagz, "Gotora" finds GZE in full state-of-the-culture mode, a dense, name-checking lap through Zimbabwean hip hop's current era, tracing his own two-decade run alongside the artists, producers and moments that have defined it. The title itself carries a double meaning: "Gotora" plays on the Shona word mbudzi (goat), with GZE's hook — "Ndini Gotora, the Big Mbudzi", staking his claim as one of the genre's greatest of all time.
"Gotora is just a simple flex, making my argument on why I feel I am the nicest to bless the mic in this country, with my indomitable lyricism, witty punchlines and intelligent metaphors. I embody duality between relevance and influence, the last Hip Hop OG still doing it at a serious competitive level.
"I acknowledge the current crop of artists, while in the same vein, they should pay homage to those who toiled for the platform they stand on."
— GZE
It's a track built for the hip hop faithful GZE's cult following has followed him from his 3rinity days through his solo run on Chekera, and "Gotora" is a reminder of the raspy-voiced, metaphor-heavy style that earned him that following in the first place. The song also formally revives Freestyle Fridays, the series through which Point Black rebuilt GZE's digital presence from the ground up, and which remains the backbone of his catalogue online.

His deep raspy voice and impressive penchant for using Zimbabwean street language and marrying it with complex metaphors have earned him a dedicated cult following amongst a wide swathe of hip hop fans.
His career began in the early 2000s as part of the Urban Grooves trio 3rinity, before he stepped away to focus on his education and career. He returned in 2013 with "Vroom Vroom," which topped Zimbabwean radio, and followed it with hits including "Imhandu" (Best Hip Hop Verse, 2017 Zim Hip Hop Awards) and "Stabhai Kupratta" (Best Song, 2019 StarFM Awards).
