Almasi to Host July Workshops with Scott Miller and Stephen Belber Ahead of Africa Voices Now! 2026

International theatre and screen professionals are in the country to lead intensive training in Harare as part of Almasi’s year-round arts development programme
Almasi Collaborative Arts is hosting two international workshops in Harare from 13 to 25 July 2026, bringing acclaimed theatre and screen professionals Scott Miller and Stephen Belber to Zimbabwe as part of its lead-up programming for Africa Voices Now! 2026
Miller will lead Acting & Voice, while Belber will facilitate Writing for Stage & Screen. The workshops will take place at The Friendship Bench and The Jasen Mpepho Little Theatre and are designed to strengthen the skills of Zimbabwean artists while building momentum toward Almasi’s flagship festival later this year.

Belber’s presence gives the programme added international weight. He is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and director whose work has been staged on Broadway and in more than 25 countries, with credits spanning theatre, film, and television, including The Laramie Project, Law & Order: SVU, Tape, and the Netflix thriller The Madness, which he created and show-ran
His screen and stage career also includes the feature film Match, starring Patrick Stewart and Carla Gugino, as well as Management, starring Jennifer Aniston and Woody Harrelson, reinforcing the level of professional experience being brought into direct conversation with Zimbabwean writers and performers.

Almasi said the workshops are part of a broader effort to professionalise the country’s creative sector and deepen the pipeline of local talent.
“Zimbabwe has extraordinary artists, and this programme is about creating the conditions for that talent to grow, compete, and lead,” said Zaza Muchemwa, Associate Artistic Director of Almasi Collaborative Arts. “Bringing practitioners of Scott Miller and Stephen Belber’s calibre into this process is part of ensuring that Zimbabwean artists are engaging world-class standards while developing their own voices.”
Scott Miller is a professor at NYU’s Tisch Graduate Acting Program and founder of the mVm Miller Voice Method®. He has spent more than four decades training professionals across theatre, film, broadcasting, and corporate settings.

Stephen Belber’s workshops on Writing for Stage & Screen will run at the same time
The July intensives form part of Almasi’s year-round programme leading to Africa Voices Now! 2026, which will showcase new Zimbabwean work and support the development of a stronger local theatre and screen ecosystem.
A small select group of Zimbabwean Entertainment Industry Professionals have been invited to partake in these exclusive workshops.

Africa Voices Now! is the culmination of Almasi’s long-term investment in training, readings, intensives, and public presentations. The festival is intended to create a clear pathway from training to production, and from local talent to global opportunity.
About the Professionals
Scott Miller is a professor at NYU Tisch’s Graduate Acting Program and the founder of the mVm Miller Voice Method®. With more than four decades of experience as a coach, trainer, and teacher, he has worked across theatre, film, broadcasting, education, and leadership development. His background includes professional sports, law, producing, directing, and performance training, giving him a rigorous and practical approach to voice, presence, and communication.
Stephen Belber is an internationally recognised playwright, screenwriter, and director whose work has been produced on Broadway and in more than 25 countries. His plays include Match, Tape, McReele, Fault Lines, and The Power of Duff. His film and television credits include Tape, The Laramie Project, O.G., and the Netflix series The Madness, which he created and show-ran. His experience across stage and screen makes his workshop especially relevant for Zimbabwean writers developing work for both live performance and filmed storytelling.
