Singer-songwriter Skai and producer HALU! come together to deliver Eyethu, a 6-track Afro-house EP. At the heart of this collaboration is a synthesis of HALU’s cybernetic persona and Skai’s endearing humanity, mimicking the fusion of electronic instrumentation and organic melodies that underpins Afro-House.

From calming grooves to driving synths, Eyethu offers soundbeds that are at once transportive, healing and comforting. Across this voyage, Skai and HALU! weave a tale of displacement and return…. of brokenness that becomes whole. “Eyethu is a spiritual offering,” the dulcet-voiced Skai remarks. “It’s a celebration of identity, and a reminder that even in a chaotic world, home is not just a place — it’s a rhythm, a memory, a fight, and a flame.”

As the EP reclaims the meaning of home, identity, and resilience; it’s rooted in personal truth and ancestral memory. Between its inventive compositions, the project is both a reckoning with the present and a return to the past. In true HALU! style, the traditional and contemporary combine, with the EP infusing indigenous values into afro-futuristic frameworks to craft a sonic homecoming. This is also reflected in the album artwork; a Sherman Baloyi design that bridges digital design and traditional heritage.

“The EP is a blend of chants, harmonies and pulsing rhythms that carry you through your longing and offer you a welcome release,” Skai says. “It draws power from the land, family, and the spiritual essence of African life.” With such messaging layered over electronic inflections, this collaboration serves as both a seamless musical pairing and demonstrates the communal spirit of the EP. Anchored by the quintessential African notion of unity, these songs coalesce around the theme of a cocooning presence.

“The musical journey begins with Ikhaya Lakho, a meditative chant and invocation,” Skai shares. “It’s an ode to belonging — the sacred, warm knowing of community, tradition, and generational love.” As Skai and HALU! embark on explorations of this feeling; pockets of the self, their continent and the world are brought into sharp focus through eclectic sonic forays.

Extending the idea of what home represents, Eyethu delves into the intimate through a sprinkle of romance deftly coated over manipulated vocal chops and shuffling percussion on Inguwe. Here, Skai relays the feeling of certainty in love. “Inguwe echoes a celebration of love — deep, destined, and enduring. The tone reflects a soul stirring,” she says. "It's always been you is a message delivered with tenderness and with passion woven into every line.”

On the lead single Kumba, meanwhile, Skai croons “I remember home, I’m going back” — lyrics that double as the EP’s weighty mantra. “Kumba a declaration and the emotional climax of the EP,” she says. “It’s about the pull of your homeland — the rhythm of the nights, the fire-cooked meals, the laughter on verandas.” While there’s plenty of joy in the divinity of such moments, HALU!’s production summons out of Skai moments of poignant reflection. On Ikhanya, the artist draws defiance from African spirituality and poetic affirmation with a soulful touch. “Ikhanya is a resistance anthem — a reminder that our light is ancestral, divine, and cannot be dimmed,” Skai reveals, “It emerges as a call to every woman, every forgotten child and every silenced dreamer: shine anyway!”

It’s the penultimate The Lost Ones, that calls the lonesome home, as a rallying cry for the orphans, misfits and rejects. The song reminds the marginalized of their resilience, as HALU! constructs a foundation punctuated by piano keys. “The Lost Ones fuses languages — Shona, Zulu, and a created tongue — to form a spiritual shield,” Skai says. “The chorus chants Qina mthakababa (be strong, child of the soil), as a reminder that strength is in our roots, and our liberation will not be televised — but it will be danced.”

About HALU!

The Afro-House DJ and producer known as HALU! is a mysterious and elusive figure. HALU! is militant and dogmatic in his approach to his only true passion: Afro-House. HALU! sees the world in binary codes; the Ones and Zeros that fill his periphery bleed into his music and his brand.

Enigmatic producer HALU! and vocalist Skai present ‘Kumba’, taken off their collaborative EP Eyethu - out on all digital platforms 26 September 2025. In the context of Eyethu, a genre-bending body of work that reclaims the meaning of home and identity through ancestral echoes and futuristic soundscapes, Kumba acts as a central pulse.

As the Eyethu EP reclaims the meaning of home, identity, and resilience, it’s rooted in personal truth and ancestral memory. Between its inventive compositions and Skai’s heartfelt vocals, the project is both a reckoning with the present and a return to the past. This is deftly reflected in the project’s artwork, crafted by renowned multidisciplinary artist Sherman Baloyi. The striking album cover bridges digital design and traditional heritage in the same way Eyethu infuses indigenous values into afro-futuristic frameworks to craft a sonic homecoming.

A spiritual and sonic exploration of identity, memory, and return; Kumba is rooted in Afro-house rhythms and layered with rich vocals. Between its alluring grooves, the song is a musical love letter to the idea of home, both in a physical and spiritual sense.

“Kumba means home in Shona,” singer Skai explains. “The song is a reflection on what it means to find one’s way back to self….to belonging, to peace.” Over hypnotic percussion and evocative vocal loops, Skai sings:

“There’s that one place
Where anything goes
Where an embrace is better than gold”

These lines echo the yearning many feel in a fractured world and Kumba serves as a bold affirmation of return, asking listeners to listen not just with their ears, but with memory: to go back, to remember, and to find home in the beat. “These lyrics are both intimate and universal,” Skai says. “I’m inviting my listeners to journey inward toward healing and rediscovery.” This is Afro-house in its purest form, with Skai and HALU! combining the traditional and contemporary for a revelatory, synth-tinged voyage.
