HALU! & Skai! Eyethu EP Launch Event Recap
Harare - Friday September 26 saw enigmatic producer HALU! And vocalist Skai held a launch event for their brand new Afrohouse EP titled Eyethu. The event was held in collaboration with multi-disciplinary artist Sherman Baloyi, who played host at his Mount Pleasant-located Studio Sherman Baloyi.
HALU!
This unique launch extends a meeting of worlds, which is reflected in the Eyethu EP’s Sherman Baloyi-designed artwork, finding expression in real time. The art studio proved a perfect backdrop for a release that celebrates Zimbabwean heritage while fusing HALU!’s futuristic compositions with Skai’s soothing, homegrown melodies. Drawing on the EP’s themes of exploring home, the gathering celebrated Zimbabwean heritage, digital design and afrofuturist sounds in an intimate setting.
Skai & HALU!
The evening’s entertainment was started off by DJ Tapiwa ZW who delighted the crowd with an engaging Afrotech set. Afterwards, HALU! and Skai showcased new tracks off their collaborative project, including the well-received lead single ‘Kumba’ and growing fan-favourite ‘Ikhanya’. With sights, sounds and limited-edition merch abound the Eyethu launch represented an unforgettable experience - a token of shared community!
Skai
The Eyethu EP launch event fused music and art in creative ways that made for a memorable night that captured the feeling of home. “It was a beautiful experience. In the past, I’ve hosted music installations in my studio with DJs presenting diverse sets, each offering their own texture. But this was different,” Sherman Baloyi says. “HALU! and Skai delivered something closer to my art — an original masterpiece full of meaning and soul. HALU! commanded the decks with precision, while Skai’s voice carried like an echo of Africa itself, vibrating with beauty and memory.”

Skai and HALU! Soundtrack Homecoming On Their Eyethu EP.

Title: Eyethu
Artist: Skai and HALU!
Genre: Afro-House, Afro-Tech
Tracklist:
Kumba
Ikhanya
Inguwe
The Lost Ones
Ikhaya Lakho
The Lost Ones (Chant Edit)
Singer-songwriter Skai and producer HALU! come together to deliver Eyethu, a 6-track Afro-house EP. At the heart of this collaboration is a synthesis of HALU’s cybernetic persona and Skai’s endearing humanity, mimicking the fusion of electronic instrumentation and organic melodies that underpins Afro-House.
From calming grooves to driving synths, Eyethu offers soundbeds that are at once transportive, healing and comforting. Across this voyage, Skai and HALU! weave a tale of displacement and return…. of brokenness that becomes whole. “Eyethu is a spiritual offering,” the dulcet-voiced Skai remarks. “It’s a celebration of identity, and a reminder that even in a chaotic world, home is not just a place — it’s a rhythm, a memory, a fight, and a flame.”
As the EP reclaims the meaning of home, identity, and resilience; it’s rooted in personal truth and ancestral memory. Between its inventive compositions, the project is both a reckoning with the present and a return to the past. In true HALU! style, the traditional and contemporary combine, with the EP infusing indigenous values into afro-futuristic frameworks to craft a sonic homecoming. This is also reflected in the album artwork; a Sherman Baloyi design that bridges digital design and traditional heritage.
“The EP is a blend of chants, harmonies and pulsing rhythms that carry you through your longing and offer you a welcome release,” Skai says. “It draws power from the land, family, and the spiritual essence of African life.” With such messaging layered over electronic inflections, this collaboration serves as both a seamless musical pairing and demonstrates the communal spirit of the EP. Anchored by the quintessential African notion of unity, these songs coalesce around the theme of a cocooning presence.
“The musical journey begins with Ikhaya Lakho, a meditative chant and invocation,” Skai shares. “It’s an ode to belonging — the sacred, warm knowing of community, tradition, and generational love.” As Skai and HALU! embark on explorations of this feeling; pockets of the self, their continent and the world are brought into sharp focus through eclectic sonic forays.
Extending the idea of what home represents, Eyethu delves into the intimate through a sprinkle of romance deftly coated over manipulated vocal chops and shuffling percussion on Inguwe. Here, Skai relays the feeling of certainty in love. “Inguwe echoes a celebration of love — deep, destined, and enduring. The tone reflects a soul stirring,” she says. "It's always been you is a message delivered with tenderness and with passion woven into every line.”
On the lead single Kumba, meanwhile, Skai croons “I remember home, I’m going back” — lyrics that double as the EP’s weighty mantra. “Kumba a declaration and the emotional climax of the EP,” she says. “It’s about the pull of your homeland — the rhythm of the nights, the fire-cooked meals, the laughter on verandas.” While there’s plenty of joy in the divinity of such moments, HALU!’s production summons out of Skai moments of poignant reflection. On Ikhanya, the artist draws defiance from African spirituality and poetic affirmation with a soulful touch. “Ikhanya is a resistance anthem — a reminder that our light is ancestral, divine, and cannot be dimmed,” Skai reveals, “It emerges as a call to every woman, every forgotten child and every silenced dreamer: shine anyway!”
It’s the penultimate The Lost Ones, that calls the lonesome home, as a rallying cry for the orphans, misfits and rejects. The song reminds the marginalized of their resilience, as HALU! constructs a foundation punctuated by piano keys. “The Lost Ones fuses languages — Shona, Zulu, and a created tongue — to form a spiritual shield,” Skai says. “The chorus chants Qina mthakababa (be strong, child of the soil), as a reminder that strength is in our roots, and our liberation will not be televised — but it will be danced.”

Enigmatic producer HALU! and vocalist Skai present ‘Kumba’, taken off their collaborative EP Eyethu - out on all digital platforms 26 September 2025. In the context of Eyethu, a genre-bending body of work that reclaims the meaning of home and identity through ancestral echoes and futuristic soundscapes, Kumba acts as a central pulse.
As the Eyethu EP reclaims the meaning of home, identity, and resilience, it’s rooted in personal truth and ancestral memory. Between its inventive compositions and Skai’s heartfelt vocals, the project is both a reckoning with the present and a return to the past. This is deftly reflected in the project’s artwork, crafted by renowned multidisciplinary artist Sherman Baloyi. The striking album cover bridges digital design and traditional heritage in the same way Eyethu infuses indigenous values into afro-futuristic frameworks to craft a sonic homecoming.
A spiritual and sonic exploration of identity, memory, and return; Kumba is rooted in Afro-house rhythms and layered with rich vocals. Between its alluring grooves, the song is a musical love letter to the idea of home, both in a physical and spiritual sense.
“Kumba means home in Shona,” singer Skai explains. “The song is a reflection on what it means to find one’s way back to self….to belonging, to peace.” Over hypnotic percussion and evocative vocal loops, Skai sings:
“There’s that one place
Where anything goes
Where an embrace is better than gold”
These lines echo the yearning many feel in a fractured world and Kumba serves as a bold affirmation of return, asking listeners to listen not just with their ears, but with memory: to go back, to remember, and to find home in the beat. “These lyrics are both intimate and universal,” Skai says. “I’m inviting my listeners to journey inward toward healing and rediscovery.” This is Afro-house in its purest form, with Skai and HALU! combining the traditional and contemporary for a revelatory, synth-tinged voyage.

HALU’s signature electronic flourishes meet CIZA’s infectious vocals on this ‘Isaka’ rework.
The release of HALU! and vocalist Skai’s Eyethu EP is getting closer and the producer continues to build up to it with a new refix of CIZA’s runaway hit “Isaka (6am)”, which features Jazzworx and Thukuthela. With HALU!’s signature flourishes cocooning CIZA’s infectious vocals; the catchy essence of the track remains with additional electronic tinges. Jordan MoOzy Connects with Suhn as Tatenda LXA Shines Behind The Boards on ‘Kryptonite'
Jordan MoOzy’s hot streak and this time he’s teamed up with Suhn for “Kryptonite”, ably produced by Tatenda LXA
It’s been quite the year for Jordan MoOzy after the first half of it saw him feature on DJ Supta’s “Your Love” and deliver a much-awaited return to the scene with his multi-faceted Kalahari Coyote EP. The EP’s Lead single off the project, “No Time” has enjoyed an overwhelming response that sees it occupying the number 2 spot on Yarona FM’s Y20Chart. Add to that the balmy “Too Much”, alongside Faraii, which has spawned TikTok dance challenges led by choreographer Johanna Elisabeth and “Aluta Continua” with Frost Legato. The latter song has resonated with its message of striving against all odds and rapidly reached the top of Duma FM’s radio charts.
The second half of the year continues Jordan MoOzy’s hot streak and this time he’s teamed up with Suhn for “Kryptonite”, ably produced by Tatenda LXA. Describing the concept of the song, MoOzy says,
“‘Kryptonite’ is about a big comeback where you have your ops sitting on the edge of their seats shaking in their boots. They don’t know what’s next and all you’re being is badder and better.”
That energy was inspired by the production, which Tatenda LXA crafted with both artists in mind. “The production happened so easily,” Tatenda LXA says. “I was playing around with ideas in the studio trying to find a pocket for both Suhn and Jordan, and ended up going in this direction ‘cause they both loved it.”
The backstory of this link-up of synergies stems from a fruitful musical relationship in the past and an easily forged new one. “I have always known Suhn,” Tatenda LXA continues. “We worked together on a few songs, so he brought Jordan over for a session and from there we just clicked. We made this song the first time I met him!”
With "Kryptonite" sure to lead to more praises from fans and platforms alike, Tatenda LXA is keen on exploring more avenues in terms of sonic direction. “I’m trying to be more intentional with my sound and work,” he says. “I’m also trying to target the international market more as that’s where most of my consumers are. I’m taking it slowly with no rush and establishing relationships as I proceed.” One such relationship that’s bearing fruit is with British band Coldplay who’ve tapped Tatenda LXA as their official DJ, alongside artist Shone Zw on the American leg of the “Music of The Spheres World Tour”. It’s been quite the adventure so far and promises to get even better. “ Touring with Coldplay is the best thing that ever happened to my career,” Tatenda LXA shares. “It’s been a huge boost and truly an amazing blessing. It’s taught me so many things and I’m excited for some I’m still learning.” That’s the exact energy the production of "Kryptonite" represents and both Jordan MoOzy and Suhn perfectly capture that spirit of trying harder, doing better and going further.

HALU! Releases The "Rush" Rework
HALU! Rush Bootleg

As the worlds of Afrotech and Afrobeats meld together, this rework maintains an upbeat vibe with a tempo that will have any dancefloor turning up. This alluring combination of electronic elements and pop rhythms gives a sneak peak of the fusions to expect on HALU! and Skai’s upcoming Eyethu EP. The joint release promises a mixture of melodies and forward-looking production, while mediations on homebalance the traditional and futuristic.

Jordan MoOzy and Frost Legato Strive on 'Aluta Continua'
Jordan Moozy Frost Legato Aluta Continua
On "Aluta Continua", Jordan MoOzy joins a familiar collaborator in Frost Legato who returns to the scene with his first single in 4 years. Taken from the phrase "A luta continua, vitória é certa", which translates to “The struggle continues, victory is certain”, the song addresses the road to success, relationships along the way and how to navigate through it all.
Anchored by the blend between Frost Legato’s hip hop lyricism and Jordan MoOzy’s afropop melodies, the two artists add a vibey yet afrocentric slant to a politically-charged statement. Though the song possesses a seeming effortlessness, the title is derived from the slogan used by Mozambican liberation movement FRELIMO’s during the nation's journey towards independence from Portugal. “Victory for me is waking up everyday to pursue your dreams and aspirations, even when it’s challenging,” says Jordan MoOzy. “It’s the ability to be knocked off my horse; get back on and continue to ride all the way to the top!”
With its mission statement turned into a clarion call for making progress, this Buti On The Track production is the perfect motivational cut for pop and rap fans alike, and pays homage to those who embrace their African roots.

Jordan MoOzy and Faraii Share The Vibrant ‘Too Much’
Jordan MoOzy and Faraii Share The Vibrant ‘Too Much’
After the release of his well-received ‘Kalahari Coyote’ EP, the versatile Jordan MoOzy keeps the momentum up through a collaboration with independent Zimbabwean artist Faraii. “Too Much” sees the two join forces for a radiant take on Afropop. Produced by ILELA, this sun-soaked anthem is a celebration of love, femininity, and the awe-inspiring power of women.
“This one's for the women who inspire us just by being,” says Faraii. “‘Too Much’ is playful, but it's built on reverence. The world can be heavy, so we made something that feels light, something that makes you smile, move and feel seen.”
Serving as a breezy soundtrack to counter wintery nights, “Too Much” blends Afro-acoustic guitar, smooth harmonies and melodic rap and folds them into sprightly tropical arrangements. The grooves are both flirtatious and tailor-made care-free dancing, as the dance challenge led by Johanna Elisabeth continues to gain traction. That spirit of a shared appreciation is mirrored on the cover art, which perfectly captures the energy of the swaying in tandem at golden hour.

After the release of his De’Grace EP over 3 years ago Jordan MoOzy makes his return to music with Kalahari Coyote EP, out 6th June 2025 on all digital platforms. Containing 3 engaging tracks, the EP draws on 80’s soundscapes and adds to them a cross-cultural twist.
Taken off his brand new ‘Kalahari Coyote’ EP, multifaceted artist Jordan MoOzy drops the visuals for his lead single “No Time”. The uptempo romantic ode is produced by multi award winner, Fella. "No Time" is the perfect marriage of melody and message by the Gen-Z, Afropolitan singer-songwriter.
The official music video - shot by Masian Pictures - captures the bouncyness of "No Time”, a synth pop, R&B and afrobeats fusion that advocates the pursuit of your desires in both love and life. “The song encourages authenticity by urging listeners to own their words and actions,” Jordan MoOzy says. “It’s about taking action and proving one's commitment to their passions and dreams.”
The overarching visual concept utilises chess as a symbol for the game of life, representing Jordan MoOzy as a player making strategic moves. The video follows Jordan navigating the chessboard, making moves, and overcoming obstacles. Blending chess-inspired imagery with real-life scenarios, the artist's determination and resilience is imaginatively showcased. The visuals follow further thematic tropes with the black and white aesthetic connoting vision and focus. "The chess pieces are about decisions made during life's challenges," Jordan MoOzy says. "The gambling scene represents life's uncertainties and taking risks just like the pawn's movement reflects personal growth and progress." This symbolism is further extended in the cast acting as Jordan's support system as he hyperfocuses on his goals.

On Kalahari Coyote, Jordan MoOzy Explores Musicality and Self-Actualisation

With contributions by producers Simba Tagz, Thelordjazz and Fella, MoOzy channels his fluid storytelling abilities to reflect on both contemporary romance and the enduring human spirit. "The Kalahari Coyote is a symbol of resilience and adaptation born from the intersection of cultures and landscapes,” Jordan MoOzy shares. “Inspired by the harsh yet beautiful Kalahari Desert, this fictional creature embodies the spirit of perseverance. As a reflection of my own journey as an immigrant, the Kalahari Coyote represents the struggles and triumphs of finding a home in unfamiliar territories.” On Chivalry, for instance, MoOZy sets out to conquer his destiny by unfurling the unknown, making space for himself through both his writing and strides between afrobeats, hip hop and r&b-infused synth pop.
There’s an afropolitan impulse flowing through the Kalahari Coyote EP with sprinklings its cadences situating it in the current zeitgeist of African sounds. Recorded with a similarly cosmopolitan set of collaborators, the EP retains layers of influence mimicking MoOzy’s upbringing. “The EP stands for embracing one's roots while navigating the complexities of identity and culture,” he says. “It's about finding ways to thrive in environments that may not have been designed for you, and creating a sense of community in the process.” This shines through on a song like No Time, which bouncily advocates for seizing the opportunities life offers. The thematic base of this EP also blends eras, with MoOzy blending familiar continental elements with 70s and 80s aesthetics. That fusion of worlds is a feature of MoOzy’s artistic pedigree, as his versatility has shown with previous cross-genre explorations.
Kalahari Coyote folds that all together, traversing eras, styles and influences while emotively conveying different facets of our being while we strive to find ourselves. The Kalahari Coyote is a testament to the human spirit's capacity for resilience, adaptation, according to Jordan. It’s all about “the pursuit of belonging and the alchemy in having a blast while doing what we love”. This fashion of worldbuilding has its roots in Jordan MoOzy’s aim to portray relatable stories through striking melodies and homegrown rhythms. That sense extends across the entire EP with a palpable feeling of wanting to belong - somewhere, to something or to someone - anchoring these jams created at the intersection of nostalgia and Afrofuturism. This quality imbues Kalahari Coyote with a refreshing essence, reframing what pop music means to an artist leading the way for Gen Zs across Africa who are trying to find their place in the world.

Title: No Time

Genre: Pop
Taken off his recently released Kalahari Coyote EP - out 6th June 2025 on all digital platforms - Jordan MoOzy serves up the bouncy No Time. Produced by Fella, the song sees MoOzy encourage his love interest to take note of the urgency of their situation. The song elegantly serves as both a statement of desire and a clarion call to action.
"No Time explores the importance of stability and harmony in relationships and personal endeavours,” Jordan MoOzy reveals. “It’s about taking action and proving one's commitment to their passions and dreams.” Embodying the theme of striving found on his brand new, era-bending body of work, No Time strikes a balance between the worlds of synth pop, R&B and Afrobeats. Anchored by a throbbing bassline and rhythmic kick drums, the track fuses electronic elements with an Afrocentric knack for proverbs to hypnotic effect.
“The song encourages authenticity,” MoOzy says, “by urging listeners to own their words and actions ("Show me you mean it" and "Rock it baby"). No Time not only serves as the perfect romantic jam, but its infectious grooves are tailor-made for the club as well. “It’s an anthem about living intentionally, being true to oneself, and making the most of life's opportunities.” This duality is present on both the track and MoOzy’s Kalahari Coyote EP, which possesses the same dynamism as the multi-dimensional singer-songwriter.
And the writing stands out with its metaphoric references that simultaneously address the personal and interpersonal. “The song touches on navigating life's challenges ("swimming upstream") and valuing real progress over social media appearances too ("proof is in the pudding, not the screens"). It also cautions against disrupting the flow ("don't rock the boat").”
MoOzy isn’t just coalescing sounds here; he’s marrying melody and messaging with aplomb.

Gugu
La la la la la la la la la la. Oh, hey, I just need a little bit. Hey, hey. Just need a little bit. I. Just need a little bit. Loving kindness. Mutual respect. Tell me.
00:00:28:15 - 00:00:57:08
Gugu
And that's how we kick off the music corner this week. Joined in studio by Jordan Music, who sounds in studio and live exactly as it does on, on a recording, which is always crazy for me. I caught a listening session. You did? Was it earlier this year? And I thought that was one of the most impressive things about listening to Jordan is you sound just as good in person as you do on a recording, because often people say, well, you know, on a recording and live a very different.
00:00:57:08 - 00:01:14:01
Gugu
And you sound possibly even better, in live what, like when you're live and take that as a compliment? It absolutely is a compliment. In the same way you walked in and you said, you speak really well. And I thought, thanks, I, I hope I do when you when you speak, my ears are inclined to listen to.
00:01:14:02 - 00:01:34:06
Gugu
I really like that's where the money is that I hope my bosses are listening because that's, that's part of why I'm. Yeah. That's my that's my whole gig is that I speak well. Jordan, thank you so much for coming in. Thank you so much for having me. It's great to have you in studio. and in a moment there'll be more music, but I want, I guess, for our listeners to get to know you a little better.
00:01:34:08 - 00:01:55:01
Gugu
When did you discover that you can sing? Well, that you have a really great voice with people that always say to you, oh, you sing really, really well, were you in the choir? How did it work out? How did it start for you? So I used to sing in church, but not deliberately, like my mum was the Sunday school teacher, so like, I was kind of like the, like, the best impression she had to make.
00:01:55:01 - 00:02:12:06
Gugu
Yeah. So she forced me to sing and, like, it wasn't my thing. I was like, like being a footballer. That's what my. My husband is. So like Manchester United winning was like the greatest thing for me yesterday. Really? Yeah. your team's gone through a really difficult time. Let's let's not go into that. No, I feel like we're here now.
00:02:12:06 - 00:02:30:08
Gugu
Listen, you brought up, man. You know, most mean the most recent thing is our victory. Can we celebrate? focus on the devil? Yes. Focus on the wins. So Sunday school, were you then the kid that always led the choir? Because I didn't go to Sunday school, so I actually don't know. Sunday school works, so I always led the choir, right?
00:02:30:11 - 00:02:48:11
Gugu
When we recited scriptures, I always recited the longest scriptures. Yeah, they'd give everybody like the short ones and then give you, like, the longest ones. Yeah. so from there, like, I used to like like it was just like a, like, a vibing thing, so, like, giving it school a vibe. I never took it anything. Like anything seriously.
00:02:48:11 - 00:03:11:20
Gugu
So. Yeah, when they would say, yeah, you didn't go seeing when you have to, like, showcase your talent at school. Like, I was shy. I was just like, I don't know what you guys are talking about. Yeah. No, I deny, you know, that I had the talent to sing. Yeah. but as I got older, I think, you know, I don't don't look at me sideways when I say this, but, like, the girls reacted a certain way, you realize, you realize.
00:03:11:20 - 00:03:29:07
Gugu
Oh, I felt like Thanos, you know? Yeah, yeah. And I was just like, oh, okay. So, like, I did it, you know, like, I was just like, okay. No, it's just, I've been think I used to like Bruno Mars catch a grenade. That used to be my go to song. Yeah. why that song in particular? I mean, it's a damn good song.
00:03:29:09 - 00:03:46:14
Gugu
I thought it was a great song. Yeah. So, like, that used to be my song, you know? So, like, I wouldn't like. I sort of be undercover when I do it, so, like, it wouldn't sort of be, like, in your face, so, like, I'd just be humming, you know, just to make sure that you can hear enough, but, like, it's not like I'm intentionally trying to get you to say, oh, wow, you can see.
00:03:46:14 - 00:04:08:19
Gugu
Yeah. But then they go, oh, wow, you can see. Right. And then it's just like from there, I guess, my childhood was very I wouldn't call it lonely, but like, I've always been introverted. Yeah. my cousins were in a jazz band, and they'd leave their instruments. So, like, you know what happens when you've got, like, a wild imagination?
00:04:08:19 - 00:04:27:15
Gugu
Yeah. I always want to, like, play that instrument and, like. Like, say, words like, like, didn't have, like, a lot of friends. so, like, music became like a safe space. Used to, like, try writing songs. the first songs I wrote weren't exactly the best. Yeah. but first drafts very seldom are first drafts of anything. That's true.
00:04:27:15 - 00:04:53:00
Gugu
But I wanted to. I think I've always wanted to be, like, the best at everything. So, like, immediately when I start, I've always wanted to be that guy who's like, nailed it. Yeah. so, like, just the consistency and like, just practicing a lot more, got me to where I am now. So when you realized that you had a great voice and girls really liked your voice, is that when you abandoned the aspirations of soccer and it became music?
00:04:53:02 - 00:05:11:23
Gugu
There was a time when I was living with my uncle, and I think it was Juventus that was doing like a training camp. Yeah. And one of my teachers was like, yeah, I should let him go. And my uncle was like, there's no way we're doing that. Yeah. And then that's when I abandoned my dreams. I was like, oh, that's it for this.
00:05:12:00 - 00:05:38:09
Gugu
Like. And then I started singing. Yeah, yeah, I read a piece or a quote from you where you said, you make music for people who believe in themselves and to encourage people who don't. So music has this, I guess this, like, balm for people. Why is that so important? Is it because you were this, you know, it's kind of the music you would have liked for yourself, as you say, like being a shy, introverted kind of a loner growing up.
00:05:38:09 - 00:05:59:01
Gugu
So you make music for the loners in many ways, I think so. because, like, I think I've had, I've had to like, learn a lot of things by myself, especially like musically, being treated as the person who's like, nagging people to teach you stuff. Yeah. when you actually just need a mentor to be like, oh, I see what you got.
00:05:59:07 - 00:06:20:03
Gugu
And like, let's make something happen. was not the best feeling. So my music is more to, like, uplift people who need, like, that figure. And I know what music did for me. And I'd like my I'd like music to do the same for other individuals. Love is a big part of it. Like a recurring theme in your music?
00:06:20:03 - 00:06:47:09
Gugu
Certainly from your EP. even the song we played at the beginning was about a relationship, right? Yes. And so why is, you know, I guess, love and the idea of love and relationships and sometimes, you know, relationships being a bit difficult. Such a big part of your music. I like to think of myself as a lover. I have a big heart.
00:06:47:11 - 00:07:10:06
Gugu
I guess it was just like the way I'm built, you know, factory settings. so, like, I like to spread that because I. I'm a lover boy. Yeah. I don't know, this certified lover boy. Oh, wait, wait, it's after Drake lost the voice. I don't think a lover was a down to earth. I don't, I don't know, I try to find a new title or find a new title.
00:07:10:08 - 00:07:30:11
Gugu
the other thing I wanted to ask you about is, I mean, the genre, the idea of the genre is, fast becoming an archaic thing. and I read a description of the music you do is like an eclectic mix because there's a little bit of, like, R&B in there. There's a bit of soul in there. there's a bit of highlife in there.
00:07:30:13 - 00:07:52:12
Gugu
Peter, my technical producer, when we were listening to a, early in the morning, because we're here at the crack of dawn, he was saying it makes him think a little bit of, Anderson Park. And so how would you describe the music you make? Does it have a genre? I would say I've been inspired by. I've been inspired by a lot of things.
00:07:52:14 - 00:08:18:09
Gugu
I guess when I, when I started listening to music, I started bingeing, so I'm very impressionable. Yeah. So, like, just listening to all that stuff kind of made me like, it's like an automatic, when I start to play, I have all these ideas that, like, come to me and, like, I just layer them down. Yeah.
00:08:18:11 - 00:08:43:11
Gugu
like, from your, like, I, I think the first album, like I listened to like proper, proper was Watch the Throne, Jay-Z and Kanye West. Yeah. so I think that's kind of like like so like rap kind of like founded the way I structure my flows. so like when I sing, I don't like, I don't like to sing like, baffle, but like, I like, I like to twist and turn with how melodic I am.
00:08:43:11 - 00:09:09:13
Gugu
Yeah. and then there's a lot of. So like, I listened to a lot of Stevie Wonder. Yeah. Frank ocean, lot of Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson. That's my guy. Yeah. I listened to a lot of Fela Kuti. Yeah. so, like, in my head, it's always a party. Yeah, I wish I could paint it for you, but, like, it's always just like there's these bursts of colors and, like, once it starts, it doesn't stop.
00:09:09:13 - 00:09:26:14
Gugu
And so it isn't one genre. It's kind of this, like, it sounds like it's, it's like an amalgamation of all of those things. So like a little bit of hip hop, a little bit of Stevie, a little bit of soul, a little bit of like. And it's, you know, so the sound is, is is like a little bit of all of those things.
00:09:26:14 - 00:09:42:12
Gugu
So I target everybody. I target those who want like a groove. then the people who are into R&B, those who are into soul as well. Yeah. just different flavors and like, it's I even surprise myself sometimes. So, like, I could tell you one thing. And then the next time I make something, it's just like, oh, there he goes again.
00:09:42:12 - 00:10:06:18
Gugu
Yeah, it's something completely different. Yeah. You've been doing quite a lot of recording of late. Is it because you are putting together an album or are you just working? I always work, but there's also like some structured projects in the pipeline. Okay. Yeah, okay. That's great because it's been a while since you last. If he and I personally need new music.
00:10:06:20 - 00:10:32:10
Gugu
Oh, I don't know about anyone else, I do. I'm speaking for myself. I'm not speaking for other fans, but I, I personally, I hear you need. I hear you. So, before we get into, I'd be fly, which is the song you're going to perform. Tell us about it, actually. So I Be Fly is a song I wrote for people that struggle with addiction, but, like, it's more like a a story.
00:10:32:13 - 00:10:54:11
Gugu
Yeah, because I have somebody in my family who battles with addiction and it's like, sort of speaks on the tug of war, that goes on where you love this person because like, they family, you know, but then they drive you to the edge sometimes. Yeah. And like, you've got, like, this mixture of emotions where you place your blue, sometimes you feel the sun because it's warm.
00:10:54:11 - 00:11:17:16
Gugu
Sometimes you feel the moon because, like, things go dark quickly. Yeah. yeah. So I wrote the song kind of like two express the confusion of that emotion, like, put it in a song to kind of like and, like, carry me through the through the moment. Yeah. So I guess music as therapy for you first. But I also imagine there are many people who resonate with that story.
00:11:17:16 - 00:11:38:21
Gugu
Someone in your family that is going through this difficult health, related thing. so it sounds like first it is for you, but also for other people in a similar space as well. It's safe to say that, I think just noticing how my fans react to the music has also made me like, sort of involve them in the process.
00:11:38:21 - 00:11:55:13
Gugu
So now it's like a wee project was just like, of course I'm writing for me. But like now it's just like, oh, like, I wonder how if I say this like, they would feel two like it's like it's like we're doing it together in my head. Yeah. Because like when, like it's like it's now a community project. Yeah.
00:11:55:17 - 00:12:23:19
Gugu
And like, it feels also okay. And I'm very glad we get to hear it. live unplugged in studio. If you've just joined us, we are joined in studio by singer songwriter and producer Jordan Mousie. And you're just in time to hear him perform a song called I Be Fly.
00:12:23:21 - 00:12:34:03
Gugu
It.
00:12:34:05 - 00:12:49:21
Gugu
Is an.
00:12:49:23 - 00:13:25:21
Gugu
Open. Trunk. In which every time you come around to pull by. Always you. When you let loose out to play. So sad to say. You blame it on me, never on me I can't control your ways. When you're trying your troubles out.
00:13:25:23 - 00:13:54:23
Gugu
Gnashing of teeth. Won't be the end game I smoke in my patience. Like the fire in the depth of my light. I don't I see the speck in your eyes. You're just a jungle in my eye. Sky lit words run from your eyes too quickly. To measure up their eyes. Your trunk your way. Every time you come around.
00:13:55:00 - 00:14:23:17
Gugu
Top. All by way, some way, some ways. When you let Lucy out to play. So sad to say. You blame it on me. Never on me I can't control your way ends when you join your troubles out. You.
00:14:23:19 - 00:14:58:12

Owe it all to you. Waste when you die. Your troubles I topple. By the way ends. When you land. You see how to play. You're looking at me I'm looking at you. Wondering if we still relate I'm mourning in silence. If only you were courting like prickly I'm in your eye. He he he he he's. Cause I know you don't matter to.
